Living Whole with Chronic Pain

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~May God Himself make you whole ~ SPIRIT SOUL BODY!~~~~~~
Found this quote today in a book I was reading by Lynne Baab re Sabbath Keeping:
"Our pride in productivity is a form of worshiping a false god."
Hmmmm.... Just wanted to throw this out to get some thoughts and discussion. New way of thinking for me, someone who has always been focused on getting things done.
So what are your thoughts when you read this quote? Does it make you defensive? Can you see any truth in it?
Well the statement DOES make sense. I think now that I no longer feel productive I seem to take pride in the things I did accomplish in the past. Looking at it does put a new light on this. But then again is'nt pride in itself a thing that we need to try to avoid? But then would being proud of say our kids be wrong? I am going to hafto get into the scripture and see what this all means to me...lol...gee you have given me a lot to chew on!
Definitely food for thought... You know, in my pre-fibro days I was a real achiever/ accomplisher. I went like dynamite ALL day long, and quite often when Jonathan came home from work I would proudly tell him over dinner all I had managed to get done that day... yes, I never thought of it that way but I was proud in my productivity.
Fibro has certainly stolen my ability to be much of an achiever and I have to say, in the little I do manage to achieve it is never enough for me to take pride in.
Can I throw out a thought that now crosses my mind......
Could MY fibromyalgia be the Lord stripping ME of that pride in my productivity?? What are your thoughts??
My first thought on reading this was that we are human "beings" not human "doings".
Perhaps the key word in that quote is "pride" - am I doing what I am doing for God's honor and glory ... or for mine? If you take out the word "pride", would the sentence have the same meaning? "Our productivity is a form of worshiping a false god"?
I, too, am curious as to what others might have to say about this.
Deni, I so agree. It is the pride that becomes the problem. I have been learning this year that "being" is productive in my life than "doing". Thanks for your comments and all the others. It certainly gives us lots to think about.
